Default KO4 project

Hey All,
As you may know I installed a K04 turbo on my car back in October. I had lots problems getting the car to run correctly. After many many versions of software, a change to cooler spark plugs (initated on my own) and replacing what could be called a "lazy", but within spec, non-defective wastegate frequency valve (also initated on my own thanks to information from Alan Adamson) I've finally got the A4 1.8TqM beast I was longing for.
The car runs fantastic. Excellent throttle response, strong bottom end (starting around 2300 rpm), strong midrange, good top end. No increase in turbo lag caused by the larger turbo. First gear goes by really fast (oops, there's that damn rev limiter) , 2nd puts you in the seat nicely and staying in it while in 3rd offers a satisfying rush as well. Stepping into the throttle with 3,000 on the tach to pass in traffic the car just lunges forward. It's a beast.

Default Oops, forgot... new at this posting thing :)

My very first 1/4 run yielded 14.61 @ 93.30.
I figure with some seat time I can shave a tenth or two off the times once I figure out the best rpm to shift and how to get it off the line cleanly without smoking the clutch. It's a far cry from the stock times... for sure.

Default how effective were the cooler spark plugs?... (more)

I'm contemplating on changing the spark plugs on my car as well but I'm not sure what to change to... Could you elaborate on which brand, spec, etc you chose? I'm glad that you have sorted most of your problems out.. I'm far from done with my K24 upgrade..
P.S. could you post your E-mail address or send me a response via E-mail..
Thanks in advance,
Jon

Bosch Silver F2CS (I think that's right... part number at home)
The plugs made a dramatic difference. With the stock plugs I was seeing 22 degrees of knock sensor retard. After the plugs it was about 6 degrees retard.
Replied via email also.
Default Would this be advisable for Chipped cars that knock?

Donp, would you advise these cooler plugs to help alleviate the amount of timing retard needed on the .8-1.0 Bar chips on the market too? Sounds reasonable to me.

Well, first I wouldn't "advise" anything because there may be other issues causing the knock. Too lean for example. Best is to consult with whoever you got the chip from and let them help you with the problem. They may already know of a fix.
That having been said... I would "think" they would. One side effect is if you idle for a while the idle gets a bit rough because the plugs cool off below optimal operating temp. A quick blip of the throttle and 1200 rpm for a few seconds heats them back up and restores the smooth idle so I don't consider it a problem for me. But, if you live in a cold climate the plugs may not be hot enough or heat up fast enough to prevent fouling on those cold cold winter mornings.
