Lag

In my 1997 A4 2.8 12valve 5 speed audi, I seem to have a problem. When I hit 3rd or 4th gear in the lower RPM's it seems to be boggin down. Or hesitateing, almost feels like a lag from a turbo, but the problem is it is not a TURBO! Grr... more money outa my pocket to fix this one, hope its not anything serious. If anyone might know what this could be plase let me know. Thanks for your help.

dont shift into 3rd at 20 mph

Any engine will do that.

A big V8 or larger will simply tend to be powerful enough that you won't feel the power loss as much, but wait to shift like Liam said and you're fine.

that's lug, not lag

You might think it's better to keep your RPMs as low as possible for better gas mileage but you're forcing your engine to work outside its efficiency range when you drive in higher gears with low RPMs.

You guys are great! I know how to shift just fine thanks, and even when I hammer on it its still has a slight hesitation, might be my plugs and wires? she has 90 k on her. I just did exhuast and intake and thats when the problem started. Or it just could be low octane gas?
