Launching problem
Once again, there are much better stick shift drivers on AW. Most of my stick shift driving knowledge developed from me riding a motorcycle, so it may not be correct for cars. One funny thing I'll tell you though, is I dropped my clutch on my bike at 9k rpm the day I broke in my bike at 500mi's. =) The front of the bike jumped up and I almost flipped over backwards. I managed to not fall or scratch the bike, but it scared the crap out of me. The key, I learned that day, is knowing the friction point to the exact millimeter so that I can let inertia do its thing.
Oh yeah, practice makes perfect. Knowing all the technique won't do any good unless you can physically do it!
For an NA car you just hold a RPM and drop the clutch. In our cars, doing this will cause a chirp, and then you will bog.
So, time your launch. If you are launching in, say, 3 seconds, apply throttle to get the tach sweeping past 3k just as you engage the clutch.
To practice this, act like a high school kid revving your engine at a stoplight. Try at the apex of those revs to engage the clutch. You will soon learn that if you can catch it correctly, your car is launch smartly.

I quit riding in 1987 for good. Too many a-holes that don't look out for bikes and I'm not so young and stupid anymore
