LCD display sensitive to temperature?

hello all,

i've been noticing that on hot days (like 90+ deg F), my LCD display on the dash seems to act strange. perhaps 1/3 to 1/2 the pixels don't light up very bright and the display gets all mottled and faded on one side.

anyone else have this problem and/or know if it's something that the dealer will address/fix? i'm going to list it for my 25k service laundry list later this week, but it'd be nice to know what to expect.

when it's cold (-20C), the lcd get's scrambled sometimes.

mine doesn't get scrambled, but it changes in slow motion...

if it's really cold outside and I change radio stations, the LCD reacts very slowly, as if in slow-mo..looks really funny, like my car has a hangover or something.

Yep

Dealer will replace it. I've had two displays go bad on me, both times they were replaced by the dealer.

Yes, the material is suspended in semi liquid. The poor little can't turn fast enough.

Yes...

It's covered under warranty.

Our Avant was in the shop on Monday to get the display (Service guy called it the "cluster") replaced. They put in one that was worse than the original. So then they put in a second and that one was worse than the first. So we need to take it back after they order more.

But it's definitely temperature related. The one that's in there now starts out great, but when the car gets up to normal temp, the lines and lettering start to disappear from right to left.

wow... that's interesting... right to left...

you say they disappear right to left... that's EXACTLY what my display does... it starts fading out from the top right diagonally downwards.

must be something about the way the thing is mounted that one side heats/cools faster than the other.
