Lowering and alignment?
Dealer warns if I lower he may not be able to do the alignment. Sounds fishy to me. Can you confirm that modest lowering (H&R springs) will not introduce any new problems for alignment (or otherwise)? Also, anybody know anything about this Nothelle suspension, which is claimed to be H&R + Konis? Thanks.

Dealer is BSing you!!! MANY MANY ppl on this forum have lowered then aligned..me included...

You can certainly get an alignment, that's not a problem. I think that your dealer may have been saying that the alignment won't match factory specs, which is true as well.
Your dealer could be hesitant about servicing a lowered car though. There have been stories about some dealers have been known to give people grief about their lowered cars. Whether or not the dealer is right, that's usually more grief than it's worth.
Check out an independent for aftermarket work like lowering/alignment, and you might get some more positive answers.

What is fact is that the service manual has no specs for camber for heights below the sport springs. The camber will increase negative and is not adjustable.
The dealer can still do toe-in to spec and check camber balance.<p>2001 A4 1.8TQMS

the funny thing is NOW dealers have to deal w/ lowering springs being offered out of their catalog
and figure out what the spec is supposed to be.
My dealer said (service manager)
"oh!? really, when did we start selling those??"
So, I tell him to visit here, maybe he'll learn something (or read the litrature they put on their own counter top! Ha

Computer alignment vs. manual.
My Avant was lowered with a Koni coilover kit. The shop that did the alignment couldn't do a computer alignment for some reason but they were able to do it manually.
