My guess is the Trooper (and many other cars which run the A/C w/ defrost) run defrost in a RECIRC mode...<p>This would probably explain some of the conflicts w/ the physics arguments (i.e., the air the A/C is working with is WARM, not cold outside air.).<p>Again, just a guess.

You are probably right about recirc being reason AC can be used near freezing temps, otherwise<br>laws of physics gonna stop you if its coooold outside. Problem is<br>european A4s are supposed to allow AC operation in recirc mode,<br>while US models prevent AC use while recirc is on.<p>AOA: WHY ???? Not only does this cause probs with dehumidifying in winter when its<br>near freezing and wet outside, but in addition, in summer when driving behind diesel truck <br>or similar we are forced to inhale exhaust when AC is on. There have been many posts on this <br>crappy design by Audi - puzzle is why AC mode is different in US and European models.<br>I have no idea at all why Audi did this. You can't recycle air when the a/c is on? That's the only time I can do it...trying to recirculate air with vent only will only last as long as I'm holding the button down. I remember it mentioning this in the manual...did this change in 98 or something? Personally, I thought it was pretty retarded that you can't recycle air whenever you want...<p>Warren
