MOTION SENSOR? how does it work..

i have a 97 A4 and i found the motion sensor button... but i've tried it and it doesnt seem to work.. does this detect any movement inside the car when the alarm is on?

was told it sense the change in air pressure inside the cabin

FYI: The "motion sensor button" turns the motion sensors off.
