Mystery Cup Holder

Browsing my owner's manual this evening I discovered something interesting... It indicates a cup holder that lives in the rectangular depression in the console just behind the shifter (aka the taco holder). Is there supposed to be some kind of folding cup holder that fits into that slot? Was this some kind of optional accessory? I would love to have a place to put my Diet Coke can and still be able to use the armrest.

My 96 had a cup holder there.

It was not a very good "cup" holder. A can would fit better.

Check junkyards I guess.

I have one in the 96 "beater" I just bought (first time Audi owner...). Mick is spot on...a can fits nicely but even that I would be hesitant to trust. I've always wondered about the poor design of cupholders in cars. I had a Celica whose cupholders opened out into the gearshift making it impossible to shift if there was something in it....

Priced the part at my nearby friendly Audi dealer today... $113!!!!

Both of mine were replaced under warranty seven or eight years ago. I wouldn't spend any money on them. They were poorly designed in my opinion, and largely worthless.
