need help, please read....

i now have a noise coming from under the hood, it sounds like it is coming from the top of the engine. it is a ratling type of noise very noticeable at idle and start-up when driving i can barly hear it, and car seems to drive fine!! also the noise lowers with higher r p m 's could this be the turbo? any help would be great. thanks jay 1997 audi a4 1.8t q

Lifter noise?

What weight oil are you using?

10w 30 but this noise is much louder than lake of oil

what brand of oil do you use?....

You got me...

...the only othe thing I can think of is the evap canister, but judging from what you said, I doubt that's it. Sorry.

i know in my 200 quattro the 5 cylinder engine's lifters had a tendency to tap if it sat for an extended period of time. From what you describe, i think you're experienceing the same symptoms. From what my mechanic told me, it's not harmful, just annoying, and if you put a heavier oil in, that sometimes helps eliminate the problem.
