need help wiring e-codes

I just got a set of e-codes with phillips d2s xenons pre-installed, and when I wire them to my 98.5 a4 I get nothing, but if I run a 12v and a ground from the battery it lights right up. I've tried a bunch of combinations and used pretty much every piece of info that says what wires are what, but still nothing, even if I just plug in a halogen to the connecter. Does anyone know for sure the colors of the wires on a 98.5? Or any reason why I'd be having these kinds of troubles?

take a voltmeter and test fogs/lows/highs, or see where the wires ran in your old housings
