since this was preceded by a slower and slower turn over I'd say it's a starter
From what you're describing there's plenty of battery charge (lights almost dont'd dim when starting).
If this were a sudden breakdown other components could be suspected, but in your case it looks like the starter was slowly dying over the past several days.
