Non-functioning odometer

I have a 1996 A4 2.8 Quattro.

The digital odometer went off about 2 weeks ago. Could anyone tell me what cause this problem?

More on the odometer. I've been ignoring the "ISNP 2" signal for 6 months(and I haven't returned to an Audi dealership for oil change or tune-up since I bought the car 2 years ago). I just took it to a friend's professional auto centre for regular maintainance.

Your professional friend did not know how to reset the indicator?

Silly question, but did you trun the lights on the dash down?

No, my friend's shop doesn't have those Audi-specific computer tools.

And I didn't turn the dimmer down. All other lights look fine to me.

are you talking about the whole cluster or just the lcd screen in the middle

You need a Vag on 96-97's & early 98's to reset the service indicator.

Thanks.. but i really didn't use my thumb. I only use it for the space bar.

It's just the odometer not working, other indicators work fine.

And yes, my friend's shop doesn't have the VAG thing. He specializes on japanese cars.
