Odd problem, please help
I have a 2000 A4 1.8TQM and I am getting a really odd noise. Going 25-35mph it seems like the car is louder than normal. Once you accelerate to 55-65 you can definitely tell something is not right. The noise sounds like an unusual amount of road noise. Thinking it had to do with my winter tires I put on new freshly balanced tires and wheels. The noise persisted. Today I noticed that the noise is significantly louder when turning right, annoying when going in a straight line and almost disappears when turning left. The noise does not seem to change with breaking/shifting/accelerating (other than the faster you go the louder it gets). The noise is kinda of a whirring or humming sound. The noise seems to come from everywhere but if I had to say Iâ€TMd say the rear left of the car.
I examined all of the suspension parts today and didn't notice anything odd, but I am no expert.
Any advice appreciated, I'm kinda thinking it may be the wheel bearing, but I don't know how to check if that's bad also maybe u-joint or exhaust is hitting the body?
Thank you.
