Oil!!!

Okay... I just bought a 1.8t and had the oil changed at a 76 station like an idiot and a week later the oil light comes on. I take it back and the mechanic says that it may be to light of oil... come to find out he put 10w 30 oil in and i hear that the 1.8t uses a much heavier oil.
i just want to know if anyone knows exactly what oil i should use and if you could recommend an oil filter i can buy as i would like to just do the oil change myself from now on

10w-30 is fine, what was the oil level on the dip stick?

10/30 is fine. Many here use 0/40 synthetic. Is the oil level ok? Are you leaking anywhere? Or maybe you're burning oil. Lots of possibilities, but the one you mentioned was bs. Tell that mechanic to shove it.

you guys runnig a 30 must drive like ******, beucause I easly burn 30.

ennd up having to keep more in. I use 40 now.

the oil level is fine on the dipstick. the oil light stays off until the car warms up.. im guessing cause the oil lightens up as well.. when im on the freeway or when i open up the throttle the light goes of and stays off until i take my foot of the gas for more than 30 seconds... its obviously an oil pressure problem but what exactly could be the cause?

the oil level is fine on the dipstick. the light stays off until the car warms up continues to stay of everytime i open up the throttle a little bit like on the freeway. but as soon as i take my foot of the gas for more than 30 seconds it comes on... i can hit the gas again and make it go off. its obviously an oil pressure problem but what could be the exact cause?

maybe they f'd up the oil pressure sender wires. they come out of the oil pan.

the reason they gave is bull ****. now is a good time to learn how to do your own oil changes. get under the car and see if you see anything wrong.

Whimp: I put 10w-40 in my wife's A6--Real men put 20w-50 in their Audi's . . .

Just kidding Alex. However, what I said is true about what oil I put in my and my wife's Audis.

I have a 12v with almost 160,000 miles and drive at high speeds in 100 and 90 degree weather frequently. It's still hitting 90 degrees almost every day here in the So. Cal. interior valleys. 5w-30 just evaporates at high speeds and high temps. 10w-40 is the minimum weight to use out here for conservative driving. I find that the 20w-50 stays far cleaner than 10w-40 over 7500 miles, due to its greater resistance to breaking down and better adhesion to moving parts. Additionally, as you discovered, it does not burn-off as easily.

P.S. Black is Bitchin; I eat silver cars for breakfast. :-) LOL
