Default PCV question - looking for some help

I was wondering if you guys could tell me a little more about the PCV system (I have a 2001 AWM 1.8TQM), specifically what problems it could cause if this is failing. Could it cause a problem with boost, or is everything pretty much oil related? I'm still trying to get the car running right after having to drop the oil pan and clean out the pickup and then having to replace the turbo. The turbo/exhaust manifold is getting really hot/glowing red and my car is stock. The car won't boost - it feels like it wants to but then it tries and feels like something is holding it back. I replaced the catalytic converter already and the car is running the same. Because I had some oil sludge problems, the breather hose off of the valve cover is shot (sludged up inside and some small holes in the bottom of it. The pancake valve also has lots of sludge in it. I also have a cracked hose (cracked during turbo install) that goes the the air pump thats under the front passenger side and the check valve that is on top of the airbox is cracked/rotted and needs replaced as well.

I am definitely going to do the PCV R/R but I'm trying to figure out if this is causing my problem with no boost before I give up and take it somewhere for them to look at it.

Default you should replace the oil feed line - if you have had sluge issues

and expeically with a glowing turbo - mean inadequate cooling - you oil feed line will be gunk up - i recommend that you hit up joe@axismotorsport.com for a oil feed line

Default I don't think that it is clogged.....

This is the first thing that I checked....I took off the oil feed from the turbo and stuck it in a container. I ran the car for 30 seconds or so and probably had 1+ quarts of oil in the container in that time. The oil return line was also clear, but I ran some solvent through it in the parts washer just to make sure. The only thing that I didn't check was the coolant line, but I am probably going to check that tomorrow.

Default that is weirld the only thing keeping the exhaust housing cool

is the oil line - the compressor side is water cooled -

the pcv system vents crackcase gas - it should not cause the boost issue and red exhaust housing - boot is usually caused by a blown turbo, boost leak, bad DV valve, n75,

Default if any of your check valve looks like this it should be replaced

but still wont' cause the conditions - i am suspecting the DV - you can check it but i forgot how - easiest way to narrow it down is having someone local to do some part swamps to narrow your boost problem

the biggest thing that concern me about your car is the glowing red exhaust housing - it should not be - but only after a hard run - the red hot will easily wear out the turbo quick - so after every drive let it idle for a while before turning the car off

Default Ok...so how do I

check to see if I have a boost leak or a bad DV or N75?

What is confusing to me is that the car ran fine before the oil light came on and obviously I shouldn't have driven it at all after it did, but I did and the turbo blew. Now I don't have any power and the turbo keeps getting hot. I got a low mileage (3k) used turbo and I checked the shaft play and there was basically none, so I can only assume that the turbo is ok. I'm not saying that the DV or N75 might not need to be replaced (my car has 145k on it), but it doesn't make sense to me why they would just completly fail now when they were working 50 miles ago.

Default Re: if any of your check valve looks like this it should be replaced

Thats what my check valve on top of the air box looks like that I need to replace. Again though, the car was running ok before this whole ordeal (at least I thought so).

What does that check valve control?

Default uhh where do you live - i have some stock parts lying around

uhhh DV is just a diaphragm it rips and goes - n75 is electrical and same thing - it is kinda of common that bad things all happen at once - if those parts arn't broken it is time to do a check for vac leak by pressurizing the system.
