Default Please help!

Okay, I decided to clean up the ride today, going on a long weekend trip. I had this brillant idea to use dielectric grease on all the connections under the hood..

now it won't run.. well.. it will barely run..

I did the spark plugs.
the fuel injectors
the O2 connections
the vaccum connections,etc

What gives?? Was that the worst idea known to man to do or what??

Ummm dielectric grease is often non conductive. The meaning has been mixed in recent years.

I would. Unless the label specifically states it is conductive, one is safest assuming it is not.

Default Hmm funny thing is the word dielectric means non conductive ;-)

Main Entry: di·elec·tric
Pronunciation: "dI-&-'lek-trik
Function: noun
Etymology: dia- + electric
Date: 1837
: a nonconductor of direct electric current
- dielectric adjective

Funny how many people screw this up...Ed Morfe and I had a funny exchange about it some time ago ;-)

Default That's right

Grease that conducts electricty should be called "non-dielectric grease".

Default They have many which are specifically for that, they're usually called Silver Bearing Grease

or Copper Bearing Grease etc...they're usually used sparingly on surface interfaces on high current busses and such.

Should be but lots of outfits (some big time 'names' too) switch the term around.
