Default Please help: Keyless Entry problems

Hi,
My keyless entry stopped working, and it's not the battery. I followed the instructios in the manual:

1. Press button A or B (Lock or Unlock) on the remote
2. Within a minute, lock or unlock the door

I tried the above, but it doesn't work.

Searched the archive and came up with Mark Quinn's method. I got confused with some of the steps. Maybe someone can clear it up.

In Step (1), turn ignition ON just means to move the key to the ON position but not actually start the engine, right? I turn the key to the ON position w/o starting the engine.

Did Step (2)

Step (3) works as in the instructions below. The light flashes (I had it re-programmed before. No honk). I assume first remote doesn't mean the first key's remote, right? Since it is a flip key, the first key is already in the ignition. So is the first remote.

Did Step (4)

Step (5) doesn't work. Pressing the UNLOCK button doesn't do anything.

Any ideas?? Thanks.

1.Take one key and put it in the ignition and turn the ignition ON.
2.Close and lock the driver's door with the second key (while the ignition remains on).
3.Take the first remote and press the "UNLOCK" button ONCE only - alarm will 'beep' but
door will remain locked.
4.With the key, unlock and lock the door again.
5.Test the remote by pressing the "UNLOCK" button again - door should unlock.
6.Open the door and turn ignition off and back on again using the first key.
7.Continue the procedure for the second remote - close & lock the door with the second
key (leaving the ignition on).
8.Take the second remote and press the "UNLOCK" button TWICE - alarm will 'beep' each
time button is pressed but door will remain locked.
9.With the key, unlock and lock the door again.
10.Test the remote by pressing the "UNLOCK" button again - door should unlock.
11.Remove both keys, close the door and perform a final retest by locking and unlocking
the car with both remotes.

Default Take it to the dealer...

... they can do it. You might have exceeded the number of recodes for a key. If you have a VAG tool you can check for fault codes.

Default I have the same prob...

just happened this weekend. I replaced the batteries but nada. My other key still works, so im just gonna take it to the dealer next time im in. That process to recode sounds pretty complicated, so im not even gonna bother. If you discover anything new let me know,

Default I'm trying to avoid the dealership. First, it takes a long time to get an appointment. Second, I'm

afraid I'll loose the progromming on the remote already. I've them recode it for the windows and autolock. Per the TSB, you get only 1 free recoding. If for some reason, I loose that in the process of them recoding/reprogram my remote, I don't want to have to pay $45! That's what they wanted to charge me before UNTIL I produced the VW/Audi TSB showing the customer can request 1 free recoding.

An update. My initial attempt in the rain (at work) didn't work. Went out an hour later and 1 of the remote is working now. Unfortunately I don't know which one (the one in the ignition or the one at the lock or how I did it). I tried a couple of times with both keys. Will attempt it again when I am home in my garage. Unfortunately unheated as well, but at least I'm dry.
