Possible?

My brother had his car stolen 3 weeks ago (98 Civic HB), and insurance totaled it.

They are gonna give him about $6,240 (which I think is pretty good) for the car, plus money for property (don't know how much exactly for the items).

My question to all you fellow audiworlders, is it possible to find a decent B5 A4 manual quattro for under or around 13k? Of course he'd probably take out a loan and use the insurance money as a down payment, and the car would most likely be a 1.8T.

By the way, he lives in southern california, and I live in central valley. If any of you audiworlders know of some A4s, thanks a whole bunch in advance.

Anything to look for when buying a 96-01? (I already told him about the control arms and tie-rod ends, and oil leaks on the 2.8 and differences in the 99.5 line-up).

In July I bought my car for 13500, 2000 1.8t quattro 5 speed with sport package with 60K miles. High miles but a lot less than the older models i was looking at in that price range. Perfect condition not one complaint.....yet(crossing fingers)

I'm sure my brother wouldn't mind miles so much (I do most of the maintence on cars in the family).

I know he'd like the price to be as much below 13k as possible. He still has college to pay for (currently at UCI).

i would reccomend specifically a 99.5.

they have the improvments of the 2000's etc, only they still have the nDBW of the earlier models. Thats what others have said. I paid 13.5 for a 99.5 1.8t leatherette, 5 speed, etc about a year ago, so I would imagine they are cheaper now. The only 1 thing i would reccomend is go lowest miles possible.. High miles are just no good, hurt resale value, mean things have been more worn out etc. Thats always been my biggest mistake with my a4's.
