Power Steering Problem
Just bought my new 2000 A4 1.8tqm and drove it about 10 miles before the power steering completely gave out. Brought it into the dealer, who advised that I had a defective power steering pump, which he replaced. Anyone else have this problem. Does it portend continuing problems with the power steering?

What a way to kill the joy of a new car! I haven't heard of this problem surfacing before.
This isn't a common problem as far as I can tell (never heard of it happening to anyone here in the year or so that I've been visiting this forum), so hopefully you'll be ok. Congrats on the new car -- here's to more smiles, and no more problems!<p>Rick

I had this problem at 25,000 miles...
My pump died after 25,000 miles and the dealer replaced it under warrantee. I'm now at 53,000, over a year later, and the problem has not come back (knock on wood). Good luck,

Power steering failed less dramatically and not quite so soon on my 96. Only problem I have now at 60K miles is that I lose fluid slowly and occasionally have to top it off.

My pump was replaced after about a year. It didn't fail, but it was leaking quite a bit.
Then, I had a fuel pump go south, headlight washers never worked, and now I think I lost all my A/C refridgerant. ugh.
