Problem
Wow, it's been an incredibly long time since I've visited here. And of course I have a problem with my '98 A4 2.8 (quattro, automatic). I have been experiencing a rough start when the engine is completely cold. There is barely any power for the first few seconds, and I coast into traffic. The engine then seems to find itself, switching through a few gears before settling down.
When I spoke to the dealer, the guy there told me to switch to the middle grade of fuel (89 here in Indiana), and that there have been similar problems since they reformulated the high octane gas (91), which I have been using exclusively.
Does this sound right? (I have no idea what the change has been.) Are there going to be any problems in the long run using 89? Are there any brands that aren't reformulated?
