Problems, problems, and more problems!

I dropped off my car for a tune up and find out that i have bad cam seals, a noisy waterpump, and a bad steering rack! The dealership wants to charge me roughly 5,000 to fix! Are these problems normal for a 1999.5 audi with 49k miles?

Does anyone know a good mechanic in the Seattle/Bellevue area? Thanks in advance.

I have not had any of those problems and I have +70K on my 99.5

cam seals can wait for the timing belt. that or do the

timing belt, waterpump and cam seals all at once.
sounds like they might be trying to pull a fast one on you though.

$5k sounds like they're trying to milk you. It's a lot of labor, but jeez.

Cam Seal bad at 50K

I recently took my 2001 to the dealership for the final 50K warranty work. They found the cam seal leaking and fixed under warranty. Since they had to pull the front end apart I had them replace the timing belt, tensioner, H2O pump, etc. at the same time. It ended up being about $600 for all the parts and only half the labor since they had to tear the front apart.

Only bad thing is my bumper got scratched when they set in the ground and they lost my cover for under the engine. Still trying to get both of these issues fixed.

Yep , had all of them on our 00 30v.....

-steering rack replaced under warranty @40k
-cam seals @40k
--waterpump replaced @ 58k
Replace the pcv , it will cure the leaky oil seals. Common problem in the V6's.

I'm going in for my control arm inspection in the morning. I haven't been back since my warrantee expired (and they split their Audi/Porsche/Jag shops up...)
