Default problems with wrong wheel offset

I am wonder what are the possible problems from using wheels with a differnet offset than the factory offset. I know the audi engineers designed the early A4's with 45mm wheel offset. I know lots of people use wheels with 35mm, but what at possible down sides of using a smaller offset. Will it cause execesive wheel bearing wear? How will the suspension spring rates be effected? What does it do to steering? There is no need to list anything about the tire rubbing the fenders or suspenion, that is very basic. Please post your experiences.

Default IMO the only downside is causing rubbing. The added load on bearings is, I think, a myth.

Default ET35 is perfect for our cars on a 8" wide wheel...

I ran a ET32 wheel, at that point when I went with S03's they started rubbing so I had to raise the car a notch and roll the fenders...

Default Damn. I had to roll the fenders with ET35 and Eibach sports

I have since moved to an ET40 wheel and have problems. Keep in mind, STOCK is actually ET45, so while ET35 is very common in aftermarket wheels, it is hardly ideal for our cars.
