Default Question for anyone using CPP control arms

I had a chance to take a look at a set of CPP Control Arms the other day, and was thinking that they would be a nice replacement part to the OEM control arms as a good solution to squeaky ball joints. In addition, these control arms would allow for adjustment in camber- Something that can't be dialed in with the stock configuration (another plus).

In examining these control arms, it became pretty apparent that these pieces utilize a metal heim joint as opposed to the rubber bushing on the OEM arm. I'm looking for individuals who are currently using these arms on their street driven Audis to see what overall impressions are. It would seem to me that the deletion of the bushing would result in a very harsh ride over road impurities and pot holes. On the track, I can see how these would really benefit setting up a car, but my main concern would be for daily driving, in real world conditions.

As always, any feedback or comments are appreciated.

Thanks,

Randy

Default I didn't feel any sort of change after I installed my set...(edit)

...on my daily driver A4. I supposed more input from the road would be more apparent with the removal of the rubber bushings. But w/ my CO's, I didn't notice much of a change in ride comfort.

Have had mine on for ~4 months and have been driving on the not-so-bad roads of San Diego.

For some odd reason the p-side rear (shorter link) upper control arm is coming into contact w/ the spring causing some very slight clunking sounds going over speed bumps...something that isn't apparent on the driver's side. Don't know why that is. I suppose I'll try to fix that next time suspension is out or whatever.

Also, I recently lubed the p-side joints as it started to squeak. A tad of white lithium grease corrected the problem.

Overall, I'm happy w/ the product, a bit pricey, but worth it as my tires are wearing out properly (I have SO3) and not longer experiencing a cupping effect.

You might also try looking into KMAC's. I believe WYSIWYG is running them. Not as expensive. ~300 for the set IIRC.

Default I noticed an improvement in steering response...

and also a slight increase in "noise" in the steering wheel.

It's really not that noticeable, I drive on Michigan roads which suck, and it doesn't bother me at all.

Default Thanks for the reply Sal!

Are the KMAC's a complete control arm replacement? I'm not familiar with those...

Maybe I'll hit up Ed and see if I can get the skinny on the set up he's running.

As for the CPP's, how difficult is regreasing?

Thanks!

John, can you describe the increase in noise?

Default KMAC's replace the bushings I believe...I'm not too sure how they work.

I don't think they are CA replacements like the CPP links.

As far as regreasing goes, it's not hard. Jack up the car and apply a very small amount of grease to the joints that need 'em.

Although, David of CPP suggested I use a graphite power after cleaning the joint w/ alcohol. Might try that next time.

Default Unfortunately no...

...inspected the sensor and all is well.

Luckily the dealer has, in good faith, agreed to sevice my car to fix the A/C and my MAF sensor under warranty despite the fact that all this happened outside of warranty.

Will be taking it in on friday morning.

Kudos to Metro Audi.

Default Hard to describe....

It's sort of like road noise, but instead of hearing it, you feel it in the wheel.

It's really not that bad, you almost have to be paying attention to notice it, and after a while, it will feel normal.

IMHO, the trade-off is more than worth it, and like I said, if you aren't paying attention, then you may not even notice it.
