Default Question: coolant temp sensor

ok,,my old 89 Jetta had the coolant temp sensor crap out a couple times. Changing it yielded better MPG. My A4 gets bad MPG, but yet it always has. I have the original coolant temp sensor from when it was new, so it is 8 1/2 years old. I get no DTC's in relation to the CTS. However, I think it is possible to not get a DTC concerning this, yet one could still have a faulty or fatiqued sensor. So..should I go ahead and replace it for the hell of it? It is so easy to do and is a cheap part. What do you guys think?

Default asking this question itself should be a $$ charge for you

change it for the heck of it if u run a turbo. the sensor is 10$ and easy changeable. also do a seafoam run and injector cleaning for a couple of tanks. while you are at it check for proper tire inflation and any signs of misalignment.
or maybe stop using 87 grade gas as you might do.

Default like that makes sense..

I do run an A4 turbo. The sensor is $7.45 at my local dealer without my discount. I will not do SeaFoam, it is crap compared to Bilstein R-2000. And as far as checking for tire pressure and allignment...I am not some lame kid that is looking for stupid advice. I know my tire pressure at all times and my allignment is wacked due to original control arms that are way too old to be still on my car.

Default you are real quick too...

I asked a question regarding a temp sensor, not tire pressure and allignment. So you are wrong about me asking multiple questions. And yes, I am definately too smart for you. Furthermore, I realize I can go monitor the coolant temp with the vag-com and see if I need a new sensor that way. However, I was simpy asking for an opinion...yours is not valued on this topic.

Default change it...it's a pretty cheap part, and would only help not hurt.

have you logged anything with it yet? It may not throw a code but it could still be giving faulty readings here and there. Hope it works out.

you confirmed what I had thought..it may not cause a DTC. I have not monitored the coolant temp yet from cold start. I think I will just replace it anyway. Thanks for the feedback, it is appreciated. Cheers.

Default Anytime, just to let you know, mine was bad and it didn't

throw any DTC's. I was tipped off when I saw the needle shiver one day. I changed it and the car's been solid since.
