You can pick these up for $350, and there's a $50 rebate for "professional" install, which you can easily fudge a reciept for.
Valentine One (aka "V1") - one of the very best. It's a windshield mounted unit, but many people hardwire it to their cars, and run the powerwires out of sight.
Passport 8500 - also a top contender, often mentioned. Windshield mounted as well, can be hardwired with power cords run out of sight.
Remote systems usually compromise performance with radar range, due to the orientation of the front radar antenna (down low, by the ground). K40 is one of the more popular ones. Passport makes one too.
Cordless units usually compromise performance. Passport released the Solo2, which one person on the S4 forum responded favorably to. If you were to buy a cordless model, this is the only one I would consider...still, I remain suspicious of cordless units, as they generally make performance tradeoffs to get decent battery life.
Laser jammers - increasingly becoming necessary. Passport, Blinder, and Lidatek make units that are reported to work well. See www.speedzones.com for more info.

I hardwired a V1 and put it on top of my rear view mirror. I had to mount my mirror upside down in order to get enough room to do so.

In addition, I added a blinder laser jammer to the front bumper.

All these probably will cost less than the Bel or Escort remote units.
