Radio Code-SAFE?

Not from the VIN, but from the numbers on the head unit itself...
they will pull the radio (takes seconds with the radio pulling tool) and get several numbers from it.
Then it will takes several more seconds to look it up on the computer.
Normally the code is written on the handbook/owner's manual for the stereo.
Some dealers may charge for this. The dealer in Santa Ana (Commonwealth) provided this service to me free of charge on a Sat. It really only takes them a few minutes of their time.

OK, the prior owner appears to have kept the code.
Yes, I realize that I need the code to de-lock the deck. I also realize that AoA will NOT provide the code, claiming they never had it, but more likely because they threw them out (along with any level of customer service).
Needing comfirmation that the only way to DE-SAFE is to take the thing to my local audi dealer.

right,right,right and riiiight...
Haven't pushed the Service Manager...yet...but the scheduler said it would be $40. Since I just paid ~$100 for a battery to die on the 2.5 year old car, I'm being chintzy.
I figure since I own a $40k audi that is serviced there regularly they could maybe help me out with wife's A4...but I wanted to check on my own first...well, that and I don't want her driving my wagon while I take her car in. ;-P (kidding...sort of)

I hate being one of THOSE people , but
The car isn't here, so i can't take a quick looksie. IMO, there are often VIN coded stickers showing ALL of the options and related codes in the wheel well or surounding area.
How would I determine the radio code?
(Go ahead...just tell me it says...RADIO)
