Default Rant : Maintenance!!!

So our A4 sprung an oil leak about a month ago. I figure it's about time to get it repaired, and it seemed like it should be easy enough since it looked like it was the turbo oil return line. I am strapped for time lately and have had zero free time to fix anything myself. So I call up my favorite VW / Audi shop and they ask me to bring it by so they can diagnose what it is and order the parts. I happily oblige since this is a time saver in the long run rather than dropping the car off, letting them diagnose it and wait for the parts to come in. Here's a typeup of what was found :

-Cam seal on front of head leaking
-Cam tensioner gasket leaking
-Possible leaking oil return line, address after above
-Coolant lines to heat exchanger leaking slightly
-Front brake hoses beginning to crack
-Left rear diff output seal leaking
-Driver's side rear swaybar link beginning to fail

Man, this is the last car I buy before I get underneath the car myself and check it over. This car drove and ran perfectly, but that doesn't mean the car is in tip-top shape, just FYI! Now I've got to find the time to work on it and get the money together to repair it. Just venting since I like the car so much, this is just aggrivating...

Default It's an 8-year old car and you didn't bother to look it over for possible leaks or issues...and then

you come here to rant about it?

I wouldn't blame the car.

I know, I'm definitely not blaming the car. Although the oil leak up front was nowhere to be found when I bought the car. The other issue I had which was undetectable was an ICM going bad just a few weeks ago too. I came from owning an '01 GTI 1.8T with absolutely no problems whatsoever (well, except a coilpack), I think I went into owning a car 2 years older a little too optimistically

Default with a '01 GTI 1.8T in your past, you should know how these cars can be ;)

The ICM is a common failure on the nDBW cars.

Default On the other hand I used to be astonished at the number of things that failed on these cars that

AW members considered routine "maintenance". Maintenance is oil changes, plugs and tires. The rest is repairs. The repair may be justified by the age of the car or not, but it's still a repair. I think for the most part it's just ADD; Audi Daily Denial.

Oh and that's another thing. The control arms were silent when I bought the car. 4 weeks later, something let go and now they squeak like a bastard. At least I'll be doing that job on my own... I don't know why I bother to post this, it's happened to everyone else already, right?

Default TJ: Next Friday, 11/9, Englishtown. Weather looks good at this point. Up for it?

I think 11/16 is the last Friday of the year for this. I need to go once more.
