Default Re: Annoying posts

Apparently no one paid much attention to my earlier suggestion to ignore those who you consider annoying. The answer is not registration, deletion or the like. Someone posts a contraversial comment and the next thing that you know there are 27 responses. It's apparent that some of these folks are just seeking attention. And if they sincerly think that their Ford or BMW or whatever will eat your A4, more power to them. There is an answer, and it is to ignore the comments entirely.

But it's like hanging candy in front of a 5 year old! It's not easy to ignore them. I do agree that's what needs to be done though! :-)

Default Agree. But....

First, I am an A4 owner and have benefited tremendously from the useful information given by other forum participants. However, I do think that the often senseless bickering/opinions that regularly appear IS an important part of the 'personality' of this forum. Often I choose to ignore dumb posts (like argueing about Audi/BMW performance in a movie) but other times I enjoy the lively senseless arguements over trivial matters (like guys calling each other names over wastegate diameter issues!).
I've looked at other sites geared towards other car makers/model and generally find their forums boring and void of personality (e.g., 10 posts per day all very technical). A4.org is alive, real-time, and filled with personality.
So yes, ignore what you don't want to read, remember to always search the archives, but most of all, thank the guys who run this site for the tons of information AND enjoyment that they provide via A4.org.
Chris L.

Default We need a team of people who have the power to delete posts....

Jason should give some of the more active, and trustworthy people of this forum the ability to delete posts before they get out of hand. On the front page, we will have what criteria we will use to delete a post.
I know, some people will complain if we censor the posts, we are like communists...but come on, this is a car forum, and this particular forum has big problem with these posts, and we need to do something.
I am tired of these posts also, can't we do this?
Christian J. Default However ....

At one time when the list was smaller, this would have been acceptable. Now, however, with the size of it, I think something has to be done to drop the nonsense and get back to providing useful help, tips, or opinions.
With the size of the list now, if you miss a day or two, you could be cascading thru messges for over an hour (well, the way I type and read, that is the case). Anything to bring the size of the list back to a more manageable and useful list would be helpful.
Rather than a "delete" option, maybe a "move" option to bring these into a "flamer" or IQ <90" furum would be better. Other idea is all surveys shoudl be done in a separate furum rather than "A4 gneral". Another idea is to just require an E-mail ID to log in; that should get rid of a ton of BS-ers.
Agree that some key people besides the A4 organizers should have this power (to me how they can keep this list up with the quality it has is amazing).

Default huh?

How do you determine trustworthiness on a forum?
At first, after reading your post, I thought for a second that I might be worthy enough to have the honor of being one of the chosen few who can delete posts here. But then I remembered that two years ago I took two Sunday papers from the box after only paying for one - hardly trustworthy behavior. And some people say that my eyes are shifty.
So please don't nominate me. But whoever you choose please make sure they have the moral fiber to delete any post that offends any one in any way. To anyone who dares question the A4's brilliance in the slightest we should have only one policy - delete, delete, delete.
Sorry for the sarcasm - but I believe we already have a team of people that delete posts here - Matt and Jason. I may not agree with their decisions, but it is their forum. I can always stop coming here.
The answer is to simply ignore those posts that are here to annoy or incite a flame war. They'll go away by themselves.

Default Re: However .... (more)

Again, I agree that there is a lot of garbage posted on a regular basis. But it doesn't slow me down too much to scan through the "subject" headers to decide what to read. I can usually get through a day's worth of postings in several minutes and then spend another half hour reading/responding to what I decide to read.
In other words, I no longer read subjects like, "My M3 will destroy your pathetic S4." Now I occasionally do get frustrated when someone posts a subject like "READ THIS - IMPORTANT!" and I open it to find someone posted "My M3 will destroy your pathetic S4."
Anyway, I really feel that the heavy forum traffic and it's diverse content (as long as it's A4 related)is what makes this forum as enjoyable as it is useful.
My two cents.
Chris
