Rear brakes squeeking.....

Can anyone help me out with a small problem on my rear brakes. Just recently they started to squeek which I had originally thought was my rear wheel bearings going. Then I noticed that when I lifted my hand brake slightly the noise stopped until I released the hand brake all the way, then it squeeked again. I did put new pads in 12 months ago so I hope it's not the pads because from experience I can say the rear brakes are a bit of a pain (I didn't have the right tool!!!).

Any ideas out there???

Just try putting antisqueal on them

That means taking them off and putting the stuff on the back side of the pads.

But they're only supposed to squeek when you apply the brakes, not when I'm just driving around.

I'm wondering if my pad are touching all the time for some reason... and if so, how I can solve the problem.

I think your pads are not retracting when you let off the brakes

the antisqueal helps pull them back

Just a suggestion - I would try it. only take a hour at the most to do.

The pads do always touch the discs. The inertia of the car overcomes them.
