Rear spring question
The ghetto fix I described here kept my spring quiet till I could get a new one on yesterday.
So now I have a factory spring on the LR, and this aftermarket spring on the RR. I saved $100 by doing the aftermarket spring.
I feel absolutely no difference in the back end when I saw the wheel back and forth. I measure the ride height and it's identical. So despite the dealer wanting my entire VIN to source the right part, and Bentley telling me I need to check the paint code sticker for a weight code, I'm not sure what the fuss is about.
My $51 spring that is supposed to fit all B5's seems just fine. Am I missing something?

I just did both my rear springs today. Last few inches of the passenger side was broke. I was concerned about mismatch, so I did both. Needed to do rear brakes anyway. When I set the old OEM and the new aftermarket next to eachother they were the same in every way.
For yours while ride height may be the same the load capacity may be different and cause handling issues when going through dips in the road. Also the chances are high that the other spring will break in the future. I wasn't going to mess around for only $50 for the 2nd spring. This is why I did both.
My old springs were coded 1 pink and 2 white dots.

I should have just done them both. Makes more sense than waiting for the other to break, then listening to that for a week till I get another. I might just do that anyway. It's only the easiest job I've done on that car's suspension.
