Be prepared to spend big bucks on known flaws....
The suspension control arms have the high possibilty of going bad. There are 4 on each side and will set you back $1000 for parts alone on one side. Was the timing belt replaced on that car....I doubt it and should be replaced at 60K miles (belt, torsioner, water pump) about $850. Did you check the brakes all around...another $500 to $600 at the dealer. An alignment can only be done properly on a Quattro at the dealer....around $250!
Not really knocking the car, they have their place on the road. I just see many used A4's selling in the mid teens and will take many $K's to keep them alive! I'm just warning people who are on a tight budget to maybe forget the A4 and buy a good reliable Japanese car that service/parts are resonable compared to the Audi.

It has been a problem form '96 through '2000....
Now realize all cars don't have have the problem. I thought I was immune, last week the creaking/squealing started and the car is 21 days out of warranty...OUCH! Some owners have changed them 3 times or more and in as little of 30K miles!!! Clair Parts told me that Audi has redesigned them 4 times. Obviously the 2000's still have the issue...thus no fix at this time!
