Default reliability

After auditing the E46 bimmer.org board for awhile, and this board, I've come to 2 casual conclusions:
1. A4s seem to be generally better built and less-problem prone than the 3-series ('96 bushing problems aside)
2. A4 owners are a less self-absorbed, and generally less arrogant, happier group.

Am I close to the mark? Do I really want a 3-series anymore?

Default I've heard the same of BMW, as for us being less arrogant....

you should have been here 2 weeks ago . j/k there are times when it gets heated in here, but, for the most part, we're a friendly bunch.

Default Agree with Ron - but when Audi sell as many cars as BMW (in the US) we will attract

the same type of buyers. We are heading in that direction - this forum has changed a lot in the four years I have followed it.

Similar for the short term (50-70k). Don't know for long term, but both are expensive to maintain.

Default 4 audis and one bmw

Reliability will be about the same. Service standards at BMW dealerships are much higher in my area, but sampling both message boards will tell you that this varies widely. I bought my current Audi for the quattro drive and have a BMW for the better service quality.

My 93 100S has 180,000 miles on it and it's needed nothing outside of parts that just plain wear out.

On the other hand, I just picked up a used A4 1.8TQM from the dealer and they sold it to me with a broken waste-gate rod, a punctured tire that was leaking (fast) and rear brake pads that are as thin as a brittney costume.

Default Not in my part of Michigan.........for number 1 anyway (more)

Haven't had one Audi driver wave back yet. I had a little run in with a 325 that involved some high speed cornering and we parted with a smile and a wave. So my conclusion so far BMW =1 Audi = 0
