97 1.8qtm - The reciever for my keyless entry died again. Since winter is around the corner i wonder ... anyone have recomendation for good remote start/aftermarket alarm/keyless entry?

I assume i can use automatic starter as long as i rember to leave her in neutral right?

Default I'd skip

Idling is a poor way to warmup the car anyhow. Best is to drive easily until the coolant and oil are at normal operating temps. Remote starters waste gas IMO.

Default It's not that simple. There's bypassing to do to start it w/o the clutch. But read the manual, it

states that it's NOT good to leave car idling.

Default I'd go for any DEI product, rock solid......more

Although it may be hard finding a place to install it, as most won't install into a manual. Check the link out.

http://www.directed.com/security/viper/viper_rs.asp</a

Default I have...(kind of long)

a 99.5 5 speed with remote start and it is awesome for cold mornings. I put in an aftermarket alarm that I took off my old car. It is a Clifford Concept 600. Clifford designed their remote start alarm so that it is impossible for the car to be remote started while in gear. But the downside is that you have to press two buttons on the key fob prior to exiting the vehicle.
Example:
You pull into your driveway, as you get ready to turn off your car, you put it in neutral, and then press two buttons on the key fob. Then you turn the key to the off position, but your car will still be running. Once you exit the vehicle and arm the alarm, the car will turn off by itself. They do this to ensure that you cannot leave the car in gear, because if you did the obove with the car in gear, when you got out of the car it would die. SO...this guarantees that your car is in neutral when you leave, and when you activate the remote start the next morning your car will still be in neutral.

It seems like alot to do just for remote starting your car, but after i watched a friend remote start his mustang into his garage wall (not a clifford alar), it was an easy decision for me. PLus you will never have to doubt yourself about wether or not you left your car in gear.

Another up side: When you get out of your car and arm it, you can program the alarm to keep the car running for turbo cool down. The alarm will arm, but the vehicle can stay running for as long as your program it to.

Default yup...no 97s have that cutout...the emissions guy....

almost smashed it into a wall, and was like "you should get that fixed" after almost putting it on the rollers because the test came up inconclusive b/c i had just cleared codes and I pointed out that it was all wheel drive.
I just told him hes a moron, and should never assume, especialy in the automotive repair industry, thats how people get hurt and property gets damaged, and that i wont ever be taking my car back there again.
must have felt good coming from a 21 year old to the 50-somthing year old "expert"
I went somewhere else after replacing the PCV system and passed flawlessly.
