Default To replace or not to replace the flywheel...

All, I will soon need to install a new clutch for my B5 2.8Q 5-speed. The current clutch still works just fine but will need replacement soon. I believe I will be putting in a Dual friction CenterForce clutch.

Of course, you typically want to replace or machine the current flywheel before installing a new clutch set but the dual mass flywheel I have cannot be turned. $700-800 for a new dual mass.

Must I absolutely install a new flywheel with the new clutch set or would the current one (in good shape I believe) be feasible to use??

Thanks!
Paul

If your original works fine, why even think about it? Wait till it's slipping...

Default Ture Kris, just thinking ahead...could begin slipping in

a few months so just want to know what to do. Once it goes though, I want to use the old flywheel - those new ones are $$$$. Thanks man.

Pretty sweet ride BLKPERL. I was under the impression that these dual mass wheels cannot be resurfaced? Maybe I was told wrong but several shops around town said that one or the other must be done...rather just use my stock flywheel. Thanks for the info...

Default be very careful with resurfacing

I got burned by a bum resurfacing. Make sure you take it to a good machine shop and spare no expense, or just buy a new aftermarket one if you can. If it doesn't work out you might be looking at another RE & RE job to fix it plus a new flywheel anyway.
