Replacement Headlight Bulb
Can someone recommend the preferred bulb?
My work commute is 70 miles one-way, and in the winter months, is 100% night-time on deer infested interstate.
I am not worried about using high-power (melting the guy's bumper in front of me at stoplights) recommendations.

In all honesty, I would go with a H7 35w 4300k HID kit. It will run you just a few bucks more than buying a new set of 55w Silverstar halogens, which are pretty close to the best halogen bulb you will find, but will be 3x brighter. And no, you will not melt the bumper off the rear end of the car in front of you - assuming you have projector housings. If you have pre-facelift housings, go with halogens.

Alas, the housings on my 98 A4Q are pre-projector, so the 55w Silverstar halogens are now installed.
I think these will be just fine!
