Replacing the ECU

Question....when finding a new ECU does every number have to match. I found one ECU but the last 2 characters are different, would this work, does anyone know what these numbers represent.

Post the MY of your car and the part numbers on the ECUs, a hypothetical question won't cut it.

sure...its a 98 1.8T Quattro manual

My ECU reads 8D0 907 555 P, the one I was looking at is 8D0 907 559 C - the seller said it was on a tiptronic tranny, any way to make it work, if it will at all?

It should work, but you'll need to recode it with a VAG-com...

I would call the company you plan on having chip it to confirm.
