Default replacing front primary/warmup cats in 30v 2.8

have been getting P0430/P0420 (cat inefficiency on bank 1 and 2) and recently replaced the rear o2's and rear cats. still getting the CEL so i'm going to try replacing the front o2's and the front warmup cats since that's the only other thing i can think of. i started with the rears thinking they could be bad and giving a faulty reading. i'm out of the VIN range for the ECU flash and out of the federal emissions warranty.

has anyone replaced the front warmup cats in a 30v 2.8? can they be welded in by an exhaust shop? what brands are out there and where can you get them from? i'm going to go for replacing the front o2's and the front warmup cats and if that doesn't fix it or if i can't find any solution, i'm looking to sell.

Default If I was in your shoes I would be tempted to...

Move the rear O2 sensors from behind the front cats to behind the rear cats.

Default Try some non-foulers first....

the cats are probably fine, but the ECU's threshold is too low. Using a non-fouler will pull the secondary O2 sensor out of the direct exhaust flow and 'fool' the ECU into thinking it's getting cleaner readings.

Default Re: Try some non-foulers first....

i think i did have some misfires going on for a while when i first bought the car that could have fouled up the primary cat. anything at this point is worth a shot within reason.

none-the-less, the rear o2's are easy to get to so this sounds like something i can do in the driveway. i'm looking for "non foulers" now but if you have a link and say "buy these", that works too

Default Had not heard of these - but you are right Kris - they should work

the ECU is looking for a steady state reading from the exhaust - and not one that follows the first O2 sensor. Most chips for the 1.8T will allow you to ignore the secondary reading but I guess there are no chip now for the 2.8 that will do this.

Default They're designed for spark plugs, but as luck would have it, the O2 bung...

is the same thread as the common spark plugs. I've got them stacked, and drilled, and welded on my car..

Default You say you had miss fires

how about replacing the spark plug and wires.
I just did the samething on my mother inlaws car, it had inefficiency and miss fire codes, plugs and wires fixed all codes.
