Reprogram Tip Computer?

I just had my APR installed by Mike at APR Houston today. Very nice, I'm really happy with the drivability of the chip and the increase in power. Mike was a great guy to deal with, I was in and out of there in under an hour. He mentioned to me that he thought the GIAC Tip Chip is a waste of money and that he could plug his laptop into my car and reprogram the computer to do the same thing. I'm definately going to take him up on that in the next day or two. I just wanted to see if anyone else out there in Audi World has gone in and reprogrammed the computer that way, and if so how does that compare to the GIAC chip?

well...damn, if he can reprogram it...you post the procedures.

ive reprogrammed my tip computer, and it doesnt do much at all. it my shift earlier but it certainly does not shift faster.

Tipchip actually changes the shif times of the tranny.....

Just doing a recode to sport mode will only change the shifting patterns from what I hear. I'm sure Mike knows his stuff, however the Tipchip is a must for any chipped 1.8T. I've got the APR + Tipchip combo and it makes the car so much nicer to drive. WOT upshifts are crisp and fast. The tipchip actually increases the hydraulic clamping pressure of the clutch plates in the tranny thus reducing shift lag. Hope this helps a little,
