Default Reprogramming remote with only 1 working key?

I have only one key it's a switchblade remote key and the remote part is in bad shape.
I bought another remote key off ebay.

Is there any possible way to reprogram the remote part of the key I got off ebay to work with my car when I only have one key to begin with? Any way with a VAG-COM maybe? I just want to replace the remote part of my existing key for now.

I searched and really didn't come up with any solution other than having two working keys to begin with.

Thanks.

Default the key you want to program has to be in the driver's door lock...

so if the remote doesn't work or the key doesn't fit into the lock, it won't work. You'll have to buy a new key-fob "head" (the part with the key on it) and have it cut to your car. Dealer charges like $60 for the head, and cuts it for free

Default My local dealer told me it's $150 for a new key...

Which I think is ridicules, for a key, I'm just trying to get away cheaper.

they were probably talking about the entire fob, key+remote. I'm just talking about the key part

Default LOL um....

$40+$15 to get it cut is just $2 short of buying it from the dealer ($57.xx) and having them cut it for free...

Default Some dealers charge more than that.

The ones around me charge $15 to cut and $60 for the blank. Plus tax. So, it's just short of $80 to get a key done here in SoCal. (Sales tax here is like 8.25%)

I'm not charging the customer any tax.

Also, make sure the price you're looking at is current. Due to exchange rate changes, the price of some parts has gone up noticeably.

But, if you can get it for that price, more power to you!
