I may not have the techno babble correct..

but is it normal for the shifter assenbly to lean from the console and create a gap?

More specificity? There is a LOT towards the passenger's side :) Between what parts is the gap

appearing?

there's about a 1/4" gap from the console

if you're sitting in th e dr. seat, it appears tha the shift handle is 1/4 -1/2" off center to the console.
