Shifting Question

With a manual transmission is it okay to shift to a higher gear while continuing to accelerate?<p>Bob W. 1998.5 QMS

Sure. If not it'd be awfully tough to hit highway cruising speeds in 1st gear.

I'm asking about keeping your foot on the gas while shifting as opposed to releasing the pedal prior to engaging the clutch

Release the pedal.........dont think you want to be speed shifting in your new car......new tranny is $11,000!nt

I keep my foot on the gas and shift as fast as I can (when I need a lot of pickup), just dont "force" the gears. If you can shift fast enough, the RPMs won't climb much.

Experimenting with Friction Welding (on your clutch)? LIFT!!!

Novel idea - Gear matching during shifts. Think about it.<p>Also have to agree about those 11,000 rpm moments.
