SPEEDOMETER

ANYONE NOTICE THAT IN VERY COLD WEATHER THE SPEEDOMETER BOUNCES. MINE DOES EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE ESPECIALLY BETWEEN 40 and 80 mph. also in the cold my miles read out doesn't always show up, or only some of the numbers do, until the car gets warmed up and then i'm fine..

That symptom usually implies speedo cable needing lubrication (lube is thickening in cold, making it worse)

Does the speedo bounce only occur at very low speeds? Could be due to the speed sensor. There is something like a magnet on a circular disc that rotates at wheel speed; every time the magnet rotates by a sensor, it generates an alectrical pulse. At very low speeds, pulse is generated every second or so, unlike many pulses per second at speed. Therefore, will get a speedo "blip" at each pulse; this smooths out as get more pulses per second. Noticed this on old Porsche I owned; haven't beeen looking carefully on Audi. If it is occurring at speed, think the sensor is bad or sluggish when cold.<p>Numbers might just be an LED generic problem. These are sluggish at cold temperatures; have to warm up for a minute or so.<p>Just to be safe, bring it back to the dealer.
