Default Strange Electrical problem

I have a 98 2.8 and I developed a strange electrical problem this morning. My headlights, turn signals, windshield wipers, and horn stopped working. Everything was working fine last night, but this morning nothing. The hazard flashers still work and the parking lights work. All fueses are good, my only guess is a bad relay but according to the service manual and parts department, each system has its own relay. The only other thing I can come up with is the switch on the steering wheel.
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

check the computer in the rear right corner of the trunk. pull the liner back (like you were going to look at the passenger side tail light) and look straight down in the hole in a spot level with the spare tire. there are plugs coming out of it.

I would give those plugs a wiggle and push to see if they move, or if water got down in there (if you have aftermarket rear brake/blinker lenses this happens).

this computer, i believe, is associated with the alarm, but also other systems.

just trying to offer something for you!

No dice tried the lock module and still nothing. This problem is strange semingly unrelated systems going out at the same time.

My headlights and turn signals stopped working when my hazard relay switch went bad. Upper beams worked though. I never tested horn or windshield wiper.

Try wiggling the key with the car running. Turn it back and forth a bit. See if it "fixes" the problem. If so, change it. If not, check the x-relay.

I didnt see this in your post. blowing a 40amp fuse could mean something down stream crossed (why did that 40amp fuse blow!) a small fuse 5amp, no biggie, anything can pop one of those, but a 40amp fuse has some load, so something went. what was that fuse for? this sounds like a clue to me!

x-relay??
I replaced the load reductioin relay and that 40A fuse that blew and still nothing....The fuse has not blown again. Would I have to get new keys if I replaced the ignition switch?

No, the mechanical and electrical parts are separate.
