If you can't find the info here, may be a good idea to invest into a Chilton repair manual.

If you take the cover off that's atop the power steering reservoir, one of the sensors is it. You have to trace the wire.

It's a major pain to replace it. Engine speed sensor is the crankcase pos sensor.

Bentley describes it as being located on transmission housing, left (driver's) side, near drive flange.

The picture shows it with the shield removed.

I should clarify that this is from the A6, but with the same (hopefully) AHA coded engine.

This is mostly good advice - and I would lean toward the crank position sensor myself. However, the EVAP code may also cause intermittent non-start issues. You have valves in the evap system that can lock up and cause fuel flow issues - if your purge solenoid or check valve isn't functioning, you would get issues very similar to what you are experiencing. The full version of Vag-Com, I believe, will allow you to run very basic tests on these valves to at least see if they make noise when they should...

It may be good to save that log, clear the codes and then see what comes back.

The cam sensor is located on the heads (1 on each head).

The crank position sensor is located near the bottom of the engine I believe.

yes surprisingly the engine speed sensor is on the transmission bellhousing. The alarm would be unrelated in this instance. If the Alarm module actually blocks a start, it will not crank, and it sets off the alarm. It gets its inputs from the door latch assemblies to make sure it was properly unlocked and entered, not broken into. If the key is not the right one, Immobilizer will kick in and it will start and die, start and die with a flashing key symbol.

Default Locating sensor

Cant locate this damn sensor. Removed the reservoir and saw 3 plugs. One looks the same as new sensor. However new sensor is no more than 10 inches long. Can't seem to trace the wire. I don't see how if the sensor plugs in near the fire wall it could possibly reach the bell housing. I am sure this is the right part. I will attach some photos

Default Locating the crankshaft location sensor

Can not find crankshaft location sensor. Have been told to look near oil filter housing, under timing belt cover and on the back of the motor drivers side. I am attaching photos of the new sensor, which looks too short to me, as well as were i believe the sensor plugs into the harness.

I have removed the reservoir in these photos and am pointing to the last plug of 3 electrical connections on the firewall. Looks to be the same connection (3 prong).

Has anyone done this on a 2.8 ? I could really use some advice.

Also very confused as to there being two sensors, Is there anyway to tell which one is bad?

Where would the other one be located?

Again, looking for the engine speed sensor/crankshaft pos sensor on 2.8

Thanks in advance.
