Default Subs

OK, i bought a memphis amp and two kicker subs and a box. they can be seen here: http://www.lostsite.com/subs/

I'm having my friend install them for me. He told me to find out where I can get DC output from the rear. I have the bose system installed. His plan was to unplug both rear 6.5 inch subs, and put that into the new amp. Anyone know or have any.. suggestions? Thanks a lot

Default tell you friend he his an idiot and don't let him TOUCH your system.

He wants to power your amp from the lines going to the 6.5" speakers? NOT.

You should run a dedicated power wire from your battery to the trunk, and DO NOT tap any other line, simple as that. This is the CORRECT way to do it.

Default I don't know s%$& about stereo wiring, but...

I've been saving this pic of the wire diagram for the rear amp of the bose system for when I try to install my basslink sub. Maybe this will help ya. I hear the idea is to tap into the line level wiring at the rear amp. Good luck

Default well that makes more sense, but, I'd still not grab signal there.

Grab the signal directly from the HU. Get the blau adaptor. Search audio forum for info. This is the ideal way to do it.

i found this....

so is this saying i can tap out the rear subs and put it into the new amp?

and for power run a line from the battery...

That's the bulk of it. You don't need to use the blaupunkt adaptor, you can just tap the speaker line before it gets to the amp on the rear speakers. Might need a line level converter for that, not sure. Other than that, you need an amp. Something that does 100 into 1 channel @ 4 ohms is standard issue for a 10" sub, but anything that does more than that is good.

Default it's a useable point to get signal..

But I don't recommend it because it uses OEM wiring to get to that point, and if you've looked at any iof the wiring harnesses, you'll see it's cheap-o 18g, 20g, or 22g wire, and the signals going to the speakers run off wire that thin. And to boot, it's unshielded. Which means the potential for noise is VERY high. The reason you don't hear it in stock system is because it's low quality stuff and low power. You don't want to put a noise signal into an amp and then fire it into a some subs, ya know?

But if you want to tape that signal, you can. You CAN get it from the speaker however, those leads going into the rear speaker in a bose system are amplified speaker level. You would need a line level coverted and thats yet ANOTHEr place noice can occur.

So if you are insistant on tapping in the trunk area, it BEFOFE it gets to the bose amp. Find the rear or front line level (pre-amp out)signal that goes into the bose amp and tap right there.
