Default Sunroof Problem

to me this sounds like a broken cable (hopefully)

the sunroof flips up fine and goes down fine. When i try to slide it gets stuck on the left side. The right side moves half an inch but the right doesnt move one bit. It appears to be trying to open so i doubt its a motor problem. hmm... its 92 degrees out today.

Default It sounds like the guides need to be replaced.

you can get those at ECS or the dealer. I heard you have to remove the sunroof to repair that, so it is not easy. I had mine done twice already while in warranty. The parts are cheap..the labor is what can cost you. That is an unfortunately common problem with our sunroof on the B5.

Default Mine makes a screeching sound when sliding. Think it's coming from the shade. At one point,

a piece of plastic fell from it.
In my effort to avoid the impeding doom of the sunroof failure (stuck half-open in the rain...fun, eh?), I am not opening it at all. Yeah, chicken, I know...

Default first thing is keep it closed till your ready to work on it otherwise..

it may just get stuck open.. its what happened to mine the small plastic guides that move up and down the guide rail crack and break off into the rail housing and if it gets stuck open you have a real mess to do but iirc you can service it with it in the poped up position..

Default the local stelership sold me double on some parts..

they didnt know the part had two parts in each bag so i got 4 of some of the parts instead of 2 .. so when i tried to take them back they refused to allow me to return them even though it was their error and i even said at order time on here it looked like it has 2 parts in it but they said no it only has one so i said go ahead then you would know better than i since your the parts "lady".. hence where lies my problem.. she wasnt the parts lady she was filling if for the parts guy who was on lunch.. anyways let me know sorry for the rant

Default Got to mine by just taking the glass out...

if you tilt it you can pop the trim out exposing the screws. Of course this will not help you much if you are already jammed.

Default yes, but that won't stop a thief.

I wouldn't park my car outside with a plastic make shift sunroof. Mr. Thief would have a field day with that.
