surging
My 99 1.8T Tip surges(NOT A MIS) somrtimes under a load at mid range rpm, (2100-2800) The pronlem has not created an error cold. Of course when the service rider rode in the car, the car preformed as it should. Any ideas. Could the blow of valve be oepning and closing.

What kind of chip do you have ?
I had surging just as you describe, with my first GIAC chip.
Then I got Garrett's "anti-surge" program.
It still surged when I let off the throttle. But it was much better under load.
Now I have Garrett's V.30A program, and the surging is completely gone.
If your car is chipped, contact your chip manufacturer. If your car is stock, talk to the dealer.

yes..
If the stock Bypass is old and weak you can get this surge. There are many things that can cause it though.. Things that come to mind are..
Bypass
Leaking hose
Bad fuel filter
fouled plug (*common)
Loose plug (*happend to me)

i get the same thing, read on...
my 99.5 1.8Tqstip does the same. my take on it is that there is a flat spot in the power curve. the torque is there at full blast at that rpm, but the hp might not be. my guess is the engine is just straining against a load a tad to large for it. the quattro, tip, and everything else weigh the car down. just my unprofessional view
