Default Switchblade Key Question

I have a switchblade key from my wrecked A4. I saw that there is a spring pin that holds the actual key to the unit. I saw in the FAQs how to reprogram the unit to operate with my new A4, but does anyone know if the dealer or someone else can change out the key portion as well?

Default Actually ...

I know this b/c I just dropped and broke my remote. (And they are going to cover it under warranty - a very tine little piece of plastic broke off the key end and it no longer stays in one piece.)

The piece of plastic broke off of the end with the key, it is actually the little tab that holds the two pieces together -- it's very small and fragile. Don't drop it in the 30 degree cold on hard concrete. I suggested that the dealer get a new one and replace the key by taking it apart.

They told me they could not take that piece apart, rather they had to order the entire key portion with a new key from Germany.

So dealership disassembly of the key portion is not an option. However someone else can simply slide their key portion over your electronic remote portion, however that would not give them an entirely new remote.

Default Tell me about it... I broke 2 already

With my 99 VW GTI, I popped both of my key fobs apart in the middle... dealer solution, crazy glue.

Gotta love the dealers.

Default Too bad the little plastic part that broke (m)

was nowhere to be found, so nothing for me to glue back together.

The service department was going to glue the entire thing together, but then they would have to replace it as soon as the battery wore out (on its own or by dropping in a puddle - whoops!)

I am glad they are ordering me a new one -- audi advantage. I was also told they have changed that design many many times because they break alot.

If you wanna sell it, I'll buy it. (Assuming that the price is good )
