Default temperature problems

Hi,

Has anyone ran into this problem yet?

1998 A4 2.8

Temp reading goes right to 90 deg. as soon as the car is started and keeps going up as the car is driven.
The electrical fan seems to be working, at least when the air conditioner was turned on it clicked on, then off when the AC was turned off but nothing otherwise...
anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks
Cutter-A4

Car was driven in this state for about an hour and went right up to 110 deg.

Default thermostat stuck closed?

I am confused as the engine would take some time ot heat up not jump right up to halfway upon start (Unless already warm)

I thought it might be the thermostat, but then why would the temp jump from cold start?

I didn't mean "cold" start I meant the car was off all night then it happened...

Default Re: another thing

The other day the AC went down, so I looked under the hood to check what it could be and noticed that a wire had been frayed(no idea why) so I reconnected it and the AC started again. then this...think there are any connection between the two?
the wires were the same so it seemed like a no brainer to put em back together

Default Thermostat should open at 87C. 95F is 35C.

It shouldn't even register on the gauge.I might try a temp sensor first. Cheap part easy to change. Thermostat is bit harder on a four cylinder, PITA on the 2.8L V6.If you replace the T-stat use an OEM.

Default Unlikely related but try those things first. Change both. My 00 already needs a temp sensor....

and your's is a 98. Also please try to start your replies in the subject line. Forum rules and you'll find that it makes for less confusing posts. Fix it before you drive it again. I'd hate to see you kill your motor over a $20 part.
