Temperature sensor
Occasionally when I started my car (cold or warm), the temperature sensor may register -67F for a while between it can correctly displays the correct temperature. Last time, the sensor registered -67F and revert to the right temperature after the car has travelled about 5-7 km (this time the car was started warm).
Is this an indication of a faulty sensor? Please advise. Thanks.

1999 1.8T QS Tip
The car will show -67, then -45, than the actual temperature, and sometimes stay at one of the "false" temperatures for some time. Also, if the car is stalled or put into neutral, the temperatuere display may go blank for a number of seconds.
No one knows what causes this problem, but this was a problem with my 1997 A4 1.8TQM and was annoying. It may also affect the A/C compressor, which works off the outside temperature reading, and hence your A/C compressor can be heard clicking on and off at idle.
My car had the sensor replaced two different times and had a replacement gauge cluster installed once, but the problem continued. One dealership suggested it may have something to do with the compressor or climate control logic. Email me for more information on this issue. There is presently no TSB.
